Dr. Javad Zadeh, an assistant professor of mathematics at Dalton State, recently had an article published in the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics' publication, Mathematics Teacher.
The article, titled "Convex Polyhedra Are Assembled of Pyramids," appears in the March 2016 addition of the publication. The article explains a different way to recall formulas for polygonal prisms.
"When working with preservice teachers in secondary school mathematics education, I have found that they sometimes have difficulty recalling formulas for calculating the volume of various polygonal prisms," he writes. "To build their understanding at a conceptual level and make connections to the mathematics they know, I introduced them to the concept of pyramidization."
